Richard Boyles

President & Founder

My wealth of experience and connections benefit Mereté clients in many ways, particularly in the areas of development, financing, tourism promotion, and government advocacy. As an owner of hotels, I am in the same shoes as our clients. That helps me assess and improve our management and support services, as part of our ethos of continual improvement.

I developed my first hotel in 1982 and soon after recruited a partner, Pat McShane, with strong operations management experience so that I could focus on developing more hotels. This partnership was the foundation for Mereté. For over 20 years Pat and I worked to create a successful hotel management and development company. While I specialize in commercial real estate development, I am also an avid traveler and am passionate about the tourism industry. I have more than 20 years of service on the board of Travel Lane County, the travel and tourism organization that brings overnight guests to Eugene-Springfield, Oregon. I’m also a past board member of the Oregon Restaurant & Lodging Association and currently serve at the state level as chair of the Oregon Tourism Commission, Travel Oregon.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, kayaking, and gardening. I also enjoy cooking, especially with fresh items from our garden, and brewing beer.

Chief Operating Officer

I lead our hotel management services team and am responsible for portfolio performance as well as portfolio growth. This includes fostering an environment of excellence and a company culture that evolves to meet the needs of our associates, owners and guests. My experience in the hotel industry includes full service, boutique, branded and select service and encompasses over 25 years across multiple roles. I enjoy cultivating strong partnerships and developing strong cross functional teams.

My first hotel job was at the front desk at a mountain resort in Oregon. After graduating college and working outside hospitality, I missed working at a hotel so much that I returned to work in a hotel as a sales assistant and the rest, as they say, is history. I am passionate about developing others and supporting women in hospitality. I was recognized for these efforts by the American Hotel and Lodging Association in 2022 with the Paving the Way Award. I believe the best way to predict the future is to create it!

I love hiking, my beagles, small-batch breweries, good food (that I do not have to make), and time spent with friends and family.

Nigel Francisco

Chief Financial Officer

I oversee the financial operations of the organization and information technology services and security. My team and I produce timely financial reports and summaries so decisions can be made quickly with the most up-to-date information. As a member of the leadership team, I collaborate with the operations leaders to ensure our systems properly support our business objectives.

I have over 10 years of experience as a CFO, primarily in the alcoholic beverage industry. For eight years, I was on the board of the Oregon Tourism Commission, Travel Oregon, which is responsible for oversight of the state lodging tax and the state’s tourism operations. This is my second career, the first was spent as a commercial airline pilot!

I love to travel, cook and experience new things. Oftentimes my weekends are spent outdoors hiking, camping, snowshoeing, or skiing. Otherwise, you can find me cooking up something in my outdoor pizza oven.

Tim Smith

Vice President of Operations

My role is to provide a structure of support and strategic guidance to the operations leadership team in order to achieve excellence across the portfolio. I directly impact the customer by establishing systems and processes that result in high levels of guest service and I work closely with our sales and marketing teams to ensure our hotels lead their market in topline performance.

I have been in the hospitality industry since 1990. I have worked in multiple departments having spent time as GM, Director of Sales, and Director of Operations. I have experience in all niches of the industry from economy brands up to luxury full service and vacation destination resorts. I am passionate about developing our associates, guest service and cost management.

Outside of work, my interests include performance cars, weightlifting, reading and politics. Before my long career in hospitality, I thought I would work in politics or law.
